DM2 FAQ
5. Can I mix Mp3's with the Mixman DM2 controller? No, you must first convert the MP3 files to the WAV file format. The DM2 software supports importing WAV files, but you cannot take an entire audio track and record it into the application. Since the DM2 is a RAM based application, the amount of RAM your sounds take up is an issue. For example, a three-minute mono WAV file at CD quality is 15 Megabytes! Most of that 15 Megs is the silence between musical phrases. Also, most songs tend to have repeating lyrics, so having the same sample loop more than once is a waste of valuable RAM. To reduce the amount of RAM you need for samples, try breaking up your loops into more than one sound. How you break them up is up to you. Once your loop is broken up into individual sounds, assign each part to a different key and "play" the samples to your song. To trim the "silence" from the beginning or end of a sound, just use a simple 2-track WAV editor. |
